What Being a Mom Taught Me About Choosing Health Insurance

When you’re protecting your family, the fine print matters.

From Diapers to Deductibles, It’s All About Protection

Before I was a licensed health insurance advisor, I was just a mom trying to make the best decisions for my family (three boys and two beautiful bonus daughters). Like most parents, I worried about fevers in the middle of the night, surprise ER visits, and those “what if” moments we never want to think about. And somewhere along the way, between school drop-offs and pediatrician appointments, I realized something powerful: Choosing the right health insurance is just one more way we protect the people we love. That lesson changed everything, and it’s what led me into becoming an insurance advisor.

Motherhood Taught Me to Read the Details (and Trust My Gut)

Kids teach you a lot. Like how to function on no sleep. Or how to pack for any possible emergency. Or how to always ask what’s really included. When it comes to health insurance, those same mom instincts come into play:

  1. Is this coverage actually useful, or just full of fluff?
  2. Will this plan work for our family’s real needs, like braces, or sports physicals?
  3. Are there surprise costs hiding in the fine print?

These are the exact questions I ask every client, because I’d never recommend a plan I wouldn’t trust for my own kids.

  • I Know What It’s Like to Be the One Everyone’s Counting On

  • If you’re a parent, you know the pressure of being the decision-maker. From groceries to school shoes to finding a health plan that won’t let you down. it's a lot. And if you’re a stepmom, like me, you know that role comes with even more layers: love, responsibility, and sometimes limited access to benefits or decisions. That’s why I meet every client with compassion, not judgment. Because I know firsthand that:
  1. Not all families look the same
  2. Budget matters, especially with growing kiddos
  3. Sometimes you just need someone to explain things like a friend, not a salesperson

Helping Families Feels Personal, Because It Is

When I sit down to walk someone through their options, I’m not thinking about policies. I’m thinking about people, parents trying to protect their babies, just like I did (and still do). I think about:

  1. The mom who needs affordable coverage for her and her kids.
  2. The dad who wants to make sure his teenager’s sports physicals stay covered
  3. The couple leaving their parents insurance plan and overwhelmed by the process

This isn’t just my job, it’s my mission. Because everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported when making healthcare choices.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Health insurance shouldn’t be confusing or cold. It should feel like someone’s walking with you, not pressuring you. That’s what I do:

  1. I listen to what you and your family actually need
  2. I explain things in real words (not insurance lingo)
  3. I help you compare plans, side-by-side
  4. And I make sure nothing important falls through the cracks
